NSUI Udupi demands impartial probe into the death of Kavya

Udupi/Kundapur: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) Udupi district have demanded an impartial probe by the police into the ‘suspicious’ death of Kavya, a Class 10 student of Alva’s high school Moodbidri.

In a press release issued by the district office, district president Christon D’Almeida stated that the police statement that Kavya had ended her life for scoring low marks in the Hindi examination does not make sense since Kavya’s parents and a few social activists have expressed suspicion of foul play. It has been said that Kavya committed suicide in her hostel room, her roommates along with the help of other girls lowered the body and took her to the hospital. Normally high-school students are quite scared of dead bodies, in this case, how did the students lower the body without informing the hostel staff.

A few of the media have said that she committed suicide for scoring low marks in Hindi, Kavya was a bold girl, she was a National level badminton player, it is tough to believe that she committed suicide for scoring low marks and that too in the class test. Kavya in her call to her parents has clearly said that the physical training director had called her at 4:30 am the next day for practice. But the institution has dismissed it saying that there is no training at 4:30 am. Kavya was wearing a track suit when she was found dead in the room. The police had shifted the body to the mortuary without even her parents having a look at it.

Alva’s is known for education, cultural and sports achievements, a lot of outrage is in the social media, let the police hold a detailed investigation and come out with the truth, whether it’s suicide or murder.

We demand a thorough investigation into her death and if it was a murder, then the culprit should be punished. All educational institutions should take measures to ensure that such incidents of suicide do not recur in the district.

An impartial probe should be conducted to give justice to the family of Kavya. All the unanswered questions should be looked into by the investigation authorities, he stated.

NSUI Protest

Meanwhile, the members of National Students Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest at Shankernaryana, Kundapur Taluk on Monday.

They took out a Jatha from the Shankernarayana College to the Gram Panchayat and submitted a memorandum to the Thashildar through the PDO.

The protesters urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the case. An impartial probe should be conducted to give justice to the family of Kavya. All the unanswered questions should be looked into by the investigation authorities, they said.
