The celebration of NURSES’ WEEK- 2015’ at Fr Muller’s Charitable Institutions once again invited us to find meaning in our Nursing profession of “to serve with love” when we love and help people, no matter who they may be, or how difficult they may be. We find meaning by loving and helping them anyway.
Today, the 12th of May, is the birth anniversary of Ms. Florence Nightingale and it is commemorated as an International Nurses Day. Who can replace the place of a mother at Home in a family? Similarly which Hospital or Health care system can function effectively without effective role played the nursing staff. May I compare them to a foundation of a building or backbone of human anatomy?

Well, Nurses are concerned and understand every aspect of healthcare system whether it is financing, cost effectiveness and resource management etc. The decisions that every nurse makes multiple times a day in everyday practice can make a vital difference in the efficiency and effectiveness of the entire health system. Nurses are at the core of attaining the best quality/access/cost balance. In short global health cannot be achieved without nurses’ service of love at all levels and all the time and without our proactive contributions and participation at all levels of the healthcare system.
How can I remain without being thankful to the largest group of healthcare professionals, who are the closest and often the only available health workers to the population, nurses have a great responsibility to improve the health of the population as well as to contribute towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals?.
I call upon the public to appreciate the service and speak a kind word today to all nurses which boosts their spirit of service. May God who shared His healing ministry with us guide all the nurses and keep us in touch with Him so that We touch the sick and suffering and alleviate pain.
