NYK Mangaluru Organizes Creative Drawing Abhiyaan on World Environment Day 2019

Mangaluru: The Nehru Yuva Kendra Mangaluru (Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India) conducted an awareness drive by organizing a drawing event on the occasion of World Environment Day 2019. The event was conducted in association with Mehika’s Creative Drawing Class and was organized at Gorigudda in Valencia, Mangaluru. In the program, a Drawing Drive, interactive sessions with experts, and video clippings from the United Nations focusing on air pollution were showcased. Youth volunteers as well as the general public participated in the event.

In the program, Nehru Yuva Kendra Mangaluru District Youth Coordinator Mr. Raghuveer Souterpete conveyed a message on how we can work on advocacy of air pollution and discussed ways to reduce environmental pollution. Mr. Dinesh Holla, an environmentalist from the Dakshina Kannada district, spoke on the necessity of reduction of pollutants to preserve nature. Dr. S. M. Shiva Prakash (Professor and Head of Department of Fisheries Resources & Management, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru) spoke on innovative ideas by which we can reduce carbon emissions. Mr. Jeeth Milan Roach, also an environmentalist, spoke about planting saplings to preserve nature and thereby reduce green house gases. This generated great awareness among the gathering. The #BeatAirPollution Pledge was also taken.

The following guests took part in the activities: Ganesh Somayyaji (veteran water colour artist of Mangaluru), Koti Prasad Alva (Proprietor of Prasad Art Gallery, Mangaluru), Mahesh (Wildlife Conservationist specializing in protection of snakes), Professor Dr. Hima Urmila Shetty (Trustee of Dr. M. V. Shetty Educational Institutions), Tilak Kumar , Nithin Vas, Reena, and Ankitha were present. Mrs. Sonia hosted the event.
