‘Ondu Talkies Na Kathe’-The END? ‘New Chitra Movie Theatre’ is Now ‘New Chitra Furniture Theatre’
Mangaluru: It’s the “END” of the movie? That’s right- No more movies screened at the 91 years old “New Chitra Talkies”, as the owners have converted the “Movie Theatre” into a Brand “New Chitra Furniture Theatre”- and the inauguration was held on Sunday, 21 January 2018 at 6.30 pm, where the Deepa Prajwalana was done by Sri Bhimeshwar Joshi- Dharmadarshi, Sri Annapoorneshwari Devasthana Horanadu, in the presence of the owners, Smt & Sri K Devdas Pai, and Smt & Sri K Shanker Pai, along with Ms Renuka G Bhakta (Ex Mayor of Mapusa-Goa) and Ms Sumana Prabhu (both sisters of Devdas and Shanker Pai), and relatives, friends and well-wishers.
Inaugurating the new showroom of the largest collection of furniture in the city, Sri Bhimeshwar Joshi said, “I think both the brothers, Devdas and Shanker Pai have made the right decision as to what is the right kind of business to step into in the present market. With the Pai brothers being in the movie theatre business for decades and having made lots of friends and clients, I am sure this Furniture business will surely work out fine for them, and I wish them all success in their new enterprise, and may God bless them to be successful entrepreneurs”.
Also speaking on the occasion, owner Shanker Pai said, “When we realized that we were not getting quality movies, we decided to quit our movie theatre business. And also with quite a few multiplexes being opened in the city, it was hard for us to compete with them. And finally, with much thought and consideration, we decided to convert our theatre into a Furniture outlet, and I am sure with the support and encouragement from our relatives and friends, that we will be successful in our new venture. Looking forward to patronage from everyone in our new business”.
During the occasion, the producer and movie stars from the Kannada movie “Ondu Motteya Kathe” were felicitated with a bouquet of flowers and mementoes. Among the guests who graced the inaugural ceremony were- Govardhan Kudva of Vijayalaxmi Cine Creations-Bantwal; Smt & Sri Panduranga Shenoy-owners of Sri Furnitures-Bantwal; Smt & Sri Sujir Yogish Nayak- Owners, Disha Enterprises-B C Road; among many other entrepreneurs and VIP’s. The function was compered by Govardhan Kudva, and K Devdas Pai thanked everyone for joining in the celebrations and for their wishes and blessings.
