One-Day Nat’l Conference on ‘Leveraging Business Skills’ at Sahyadri
Mangaluru: National Institute of People Management (NIPM) in association with Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management organized One-Day National Conference on “Leveraging Business Skills in line with current HR Trends and Employee Laws” in the Sahyadri Campus on Friday, 24/02/2017. This conference was designed to empower the HR professionals and HR aspirants to equip themselves with innovative practices in order to assimilate and accept the changing business strategies. The program intended to drive the professional development of the participants and inspire them to thrive in the ever-evolving new age.
The program began with formal inaugural ceremony in the presence of Mr. K Prabhakar Rao, Director – Works, MCF Ltd, Mr. Shailendra Bhatkande, Managing Partner, Cardolite Speciality Chemicals India LLP, Dr. Lakshmi Nadkarni, Director & Head HR, BASF, South Asia, Mr. Suresh P, Chairman- NIPM, Chief Manager HR, MCF, Dr. Devaraj K, Organizing Committee , Director, SDM PG Centre, Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and Dr. Vishal Samartha, Director, Department Business Management, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. Ms Pooja invoked the blessings of the Almighty.
Mr Suresh P, Chairman- NIPM, deemed his pleasure to welcome the gathering. He began with the brief history of the NIPM and also elaborated on the theme of the day. He said the purpose of NIPM was to provide a platform to HR Practioners to reorient themselves to the dynamic business world and to become change agent for continuous development of the organization. Mr Suresh specially thanked Mr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary foundation, for his support with respect to infrastructure and time.
Dr Devaraj K briefed the audience on the basic premise behind convening the conference. He quoted Roosevelt and said, “One can’t build future for youth but can build youth for future”. He said, NIPM always upholds in bringing up the future torchbearer of HR professions and believes in training them for accustoming changing business needs. Dr Vishal Samrtha gave a glimpse of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management and the briefed the audience on the growth story of the college. She stressed on the areas of admission, ranking, placement and other prominent areas of the college which made it very distinct from other colleges in the district.
Dr Prabhakar Rao, Director, Works, MCF was very happy to be associated with NIPM and called the topic very apt for the current generation. He said he had his own perspective on the topic and hence he tried to reorient the subject matter as understood by him. He said Human resound function has seen a vast change in approach as well as domain. It was viewed as mere industrial relation manager two decades earlier and now has seen a transformation as “Enterprise Manager”. HR practitioners have a challenging role of dealing with complex areas like Customer, Communication, Cost and Capital and they must work with efficiency to make sure the Organization Goals are achieved without any compromise.
The lamp was lit an as mark of enlightening in the presence of all the dignitaries. Dr Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management expressed his happiness on the conduct of the event and put across his viewpoint on the Key topic of the day. He quoted an example and said everyone must start enjoying their work and that would help in building commitment and would make them happier people. He congratulated the organizers for their efforts in putting up the conference in such a big magnitude.
Mr Shailendra Bhatkande gave away the presidential remark. He was extremely happy with the Infrastructure at Sahyadri campus and said that it reminded him the structure at IIM Allahabad. He congratulated the organisers for their efforts and said that the intent of the conference is commendable. In his speech, he stressed on working on the employability aspects of future generation and conveyed his concern on the deterioration of the same. He said we all have to join hands in making the future generation more committed and employable.
The program was concluded with the vote of thanks by Prof. Sushma V, Faculty Coordinator of the Conference. She took pride in thanking all the dignitaries for their presence and also the support of staff and students. Post-inauguration, there was a keynote address by Dr Laxmi Nadkarni, Director & Head HR, BASF, South Asia. Several sessions on Key HR issues were convened by industry experts like Mr Charles Carvalho AGM-HR, VVF India Ltd, Mr.N. Prasad Menon, Head HR, Cleartrip Pvt Ltd, Ms Nivedita Mirajkar, freelancer. Head Business Development at Magnum Intertraffic Pvt Ltd, C.M. Nataraj, Head HR BASF, P.J.Rai GM HR, MCF, Mr Hariprasad, GM HR UPCL and Mr Surendranath, Consultant, Bangalore.
The program was winded up with a Valedictory Ceremony in the presence of Dr.M.S. Moodithaya, Registrar-Nitte University.
