One Your Mark Get Set Go! First Annual Sports Day at Heera Int’l School
Mangaluru: For sports fans, sports are the epitome of hard work and dedication. To get to the pinnacle of their sport, even the most naturally gifted athletes have to give it their all. The only way to prove that you’re a good sport is to lose. In sports, it is not all about winning, but your participation. It’s not the will to win that matters—everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters. Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement. The more difficult the victory, the greater the happiness in winning. If you don’t have confidence, you’ll always find a way not to win. Do you know what the favorite part of the sport is? The opportunity to participate. Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts. And for that matter, Heera International School-Shaktinagar-Mangaluru to develop the interest and also to make children participate in Sports events, organized the First Annual Sports Day “
With a Motto ‘Dare to Dream…Learn to Excel’ and The mission of the Heera International School is to provide a learning environment that encourages children to bring out the best in themselves and which supports their all-round development, through discovering the joy of learning, awakening and illuminating their intellect in multi-dimensional ways, and instilling abiding values in themselves. Heera International School started in the year 2015 and promoted by Nandavan Education Trust® (2004), a sister concern of City Hospital Charitable Trust® (1989) is an English medium co-educational School focusing on CBSE / Montessori oriented curriculum. All their teachers are experienced and knowledgeable, and the School is equipped with the most modern equipment and software. Their focus is on creating an atmosphere of learning that children enjoy and one that encourages them to discover and express their talents to the fullest. Having organized many cultural events, the management had decided to introduce a Sports Day, to unleash the hidden talents of children in Sports.
The Management, staff, teachers, and parents gathered with great ardour and enthusiasm to witness the First Annual Sports Event held at the School ground on 10 November 2017. The event began with a prayer invoking God’s blessings rendered by three students of the school, followed by welcome address by Ms Sunitha D’souza- Vice Principal. Following the flag hoisting by chief guest Ms Kavitha Sanil, Mayor, Mangaluru City Corporation, along with other dignitaries on the dais namely- Dr Bhasker Shetty- President, Nandavan Education Trust; Dr Roshan Shetty- Correspondent, Heera International school; Padua Area Ward MCC Corporator Akhila Alva; Ms Janet Sumaya-Administrator; Ms Shailaja Prabhu- School Principal; -they all took a salute from the March Past students. The students splendidly marched with pride and elegance in their uniforms to mark the opening ceremony led by School Pupil Leader, Amrutha. The students pledged the Oath led by the group leaders of the four groups, followed by the sports torch being carried around the arena- and then the Sports Day was inaugurated by releasing the balloons in the air.
In her inaugural address, the Mayor articulated that one needs to aim high in order to achieve much. “All of us possess at least one talent within us which is to be endured. Small changes in habits can lead to lasting, permanent change, so think “tiny steps” when incorporating exercise into your life. Our education system must recognize the importance of engaging children in sports. Since children spend most of their day in schools, a pro-active approach towards promoting sports in schools can kindle their interest and inspire them to go further. I really appreciate the eminence and splendour of this sports event, and the commitment and dedication shown by the management and teachers in promoting the interest of sports among these growing up kids. Today’s sport skids and future sportsmen/women of the country”
Addressing the gathering, Dr Bhasker Shetty said, “Our School is the best foundation for a great future. We place great emphasis on helping the children to grow into thoughtful, responsible adults with a strong sense of right and wrong. We educate every child to the best of his/her ability. We have skilled and dedicated team who are committed to providing the best education for your child. Our School is truly the opportunity place for every education seeker. Our teachers are dedicated to the student’s welfare, and they are skillful in the handling of social values to shape the life and character of each child. Art, music, and physical education are part of our regular curriculum. By organizing Sports day, we encourage our children to be the future sportsmen of the district, state or nation.
“Even though India is top in many sporting events, but there are a few sports that are not much encouraged and supported by the government. At Heera we will do our best that apart from academics, we will also inculcate co-curricular activities, including sports in our students. To the Teachers, parents and students I have to is that- Set your goals high, and don’t stop till you get there. The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination. Sports serve society by providing vivid examples of excellence. The principle is competing against yourself. It’s about self-improvement, about being better than you were the day before. Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better. Win If You Can, Lose If You Must, But NEVER QUIT!” added Dr Bhasker Shetty.
Prizes were distributed to the winners who won in many sports events conducted prior to the Sports Day. Corporator Akhila Alva also spoke and encouraged the students to take active part in sporting events, and not just show interest in studies, and she also urged the parents to inculcate the interests of co-curricular activities and sports among their children. During the occasion, even the parents were made to take part in couple of sports events. like Walking Race, Lemon on the Spoon Race etc.- and awarded the winners with attractive prizes.
The sports events were handled by Physical Education Teacher-Miss Lalitha; Dr Roshan Shetty introduced the chief guest to the crowd; the prize winners names were read out by Teacher Fanny Varghese; and the function was well compered by Teacher-Akshatha. Even though being the First Sports Day of the School, the management and teachers did one heckuva great job in conducting the event successfully. Kudos to all for a job well done!
