Open Drainage near Urwa Church with Protruding Rods hazardous to Commuters

Mangaluru: I have said it in the past, and will say it again that when it comes to the safety of the citizens of Mangaluru, the Officials of Mangaluru City Corporation give a damn about it. And there are so many hazardous issues in the City, where citizens could be injured or lose life, but even after many incidents due to these non-safety issues, still the MCC has not awaken to rectify them. And one such hazardous that has come to light, is the recently incomplete drainage near the entrance gate of Pompei Church, Urwa-Mangaluru, which is probably 6 feet deep, and the workers have left behind protruding rods which are more dangerous.

With school children from the nearby St Aloysius School-Urwa walking by this open drain, is a safety issue which needs to be looked at. Forget about someone tripping and falling deep into this drain, but what is more dangerous are the protruding sharp rods, which may pierce into the flesh of a human body, in case they trip over them. Also with many two-wheelers riding very close to this drain, chances are that if the rider loses balance, and falls on these rods, he/she will be severely injured. So why has the MCC turned a blind eye towards this hazardous issue.

And with seniors also taking this path, walking close by this drainage is also a safety issue, that chances they could trip and fall into the deep drain or get hurt by the protruding rods. Despite unfortunate incidents of children and adults falling into open storm water drains at different locations in the city, the MCC, is yet to fix the problem and ensure safety for the public, and due to the carelessness of MCC pedestrians are likely to become victims in the near future. Expressing disappointment and displeasure over the delay in fixing this open drain, a teacher of the nearby school said the problem exists for quite some time but the civic body has done nothing. “Many children walking by this open drainage with spiky rods is very dangerous. Someone has to take action soon before any accident takes place, and getting hurt or lose life”

So Team Mangalorean requests the officials of MCC to visit this spot and rectify this dangerous and hazardous issue, before anyone gets hurt. It’s not an issue to be neglected, it is a problem to be rectified soon, before a life is lost?
