Opposition meet condoles death & devastation due to cyclone
 
New Delhi:  The opposition meet, convened by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and attended by 22 political parties, here on Saturday, condoled the death caused by cyclone Amphan and extended sympathy and support to the governments and the people of West Bengal and Odisha.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackarey, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and DMK chief M.K. Stalin also took part in the meeting.

“This meeting of leaders of opposition parties conveys its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives,” said a resolution.

Stating that people in Odisha and West Bengal urgently need support and solidarity of the governments and the people, the opposition parties urged the central government to immediately declare it a national calamity and help the disaster-hit states.

At this juncture, relief and rehabilitation should be the top priority, they said and added, the possibility of outbreak of diseases couldn’t be ignored.

Former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda, Rahul Gandhi, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, CPI(M) chief Sita Ram Yechury and CPI leader D. Raja were aming the attendees.

Sharad Yadav, Upendra Kushwaha, Tejashwi Yadav, Omar Abdullah, Jitan Ram Manjhi, N.K. Premachandran, Jayant Singh, Badruddin Ajmal Raju Shetti, P.K. Kunhalikutty and Thirumavalavan also attended the meeting.
