Our Government Committed to fulfill Demands of fishermen – Venkata Rao Nadagouda

Udupi: Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Venkata Rao Nadagouda visited the High-tech fish market here on Wednesday, July 18.

The minister listened to the woes of the fisherwomen during his visit and also received the memorandum from the fishermen community.

The fisherwomen demanded the minister so provide a loan from Rs 50000 to Rs 1 lakh with 0% interest and a pension of Rs 1000. Various other demands like separate free health insurance scheme for fishermen community, free engineering and medical seats for the children of the fishermen community etc.

Later speaking to media persons Minister Venkata Rao Nadagouda said, “Today I visited the Hi-tech fish market of Udupi and received the memorandum with various demands from the fishermen community. Our government is committed to fulfill the demands one by one. The Fisherwomen have asked to provide loan of Rs 50000 to 1 lakh with 0% interest. The matter is already in our mind and steps will be taken soon. The chief minister has already announced Rs 1000 pension for senior citizens and same will be applicable to the fisherwomen.

The fishermen community has asked to raise the Mathyshraya housing scheme amount to Rs 2 lakhs. Already the government is giving Rs 1.20 lakh, I will discuss this matter with the chief minister. The government will install independent cold storage in Udupi Market soon which will help to store the fish in the market. Fisherwomen have complained about the cleanliness issue of the market and I have instructed the CMC to take the responsibility of keeping the market clean. The pending diesel subsidy amount for fishing boats will be released within a week. Meanwhile, the union government has stopped the subsidy of kerosene through the Public Distribution System (PDS). We should now find some alternate measures, he said.

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Yashpal Suvarna, Yogish Shetty, Meenakshi Madhava and others were present.

Earlier the minister visited the Padubidri port and Sri Krishna Math. The Minister also visited the fishing Harbour and viewed the demo of the newly introduced electric boat.
