Outgoing Bishop Dr Aloysius D’Souza Felicitated at Rosario Cathedral

Mangaluru: The outgoing Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza was felicitated at the Rosario cathedral here on September 8. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza was appointed as the 13th Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese on December 18, 1996.

The programme began with an invocation. Assistant Parish Priest Fr Rockey Fernandes welcomed the gathering. Vice President of Rosario Pastoral Parishad C J Simon D’Souza read out the citation.

The Parish Priest along with other priests and committee members felicitated the Bishop with flowers, shawl, memento and a citation.

In his felicitation speech, Bishop Dr Aloysius said, “You have felicitated me and showed your love towards me. Rosario Cathedral is the official church for the Bishop. In this Cathedral, there are Priests and administrators. The Rectors who have served in this cathedral have worked hard to retain the devotion among the parishioners. The present Rector has also worked hard to instil discipline among the children of this parish who are very talented. Parents should inculcate moral values in their children. Priests and Nuns are serving the parishioners to strengthen their faith. All parishioners should join hands to make the children well disciplined”.

Bishop Dr Aloysius further said, “I have got the opportunity to serve the Mangaluru diocese for 22 years. Because of the support from the Priests, nuns and all the parishioners, I have been able to serve the diocese. On September 15, the new Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha will take charge from me. I urge all the parishioners to continue their support to the new Bishop to serve the diocese.”

Dr Aloysius also said, “Bishop-elect Dr Peter Paul Saldanha was a processor in Rome, he is well educated and very humble. Under his leadership, the diocese will grow to greater heights. Today the mass was very meaningful and the liturgy went on well because of the Choir which was very meaningful. I wish all the parishioners a very happy Monti fest. Let Mother Mary bless you all”.

Parish Priest of Rosario Cathedral Fr J B Cratsa, Assistant Priest Fr Flavian Rajkiran Lobo, Principal Rosario PU College Fr Victor D’Souza Fr Anil Fernandes and other priests were also present.

Secretary of Rosario Pastoral Parishad Elizebeth compered the programme and delivered the vote of thanks.
