Outrage Over Video of Woman Assaulted at Malpe Harbour; Police Investigate
Udupi: A video circulating widely on social media platforms has ignited public outrage after depicting a woman being tied to a tree and subjected to physical assault at Malpe Harbour. The incident, reportedly occurring three days prior, stems from allegations of fish theft.
The footage, which has prompted widespread condemnation, shows the woman allegedly accused of stealing a bottle of fish from a stall at the harbour. The video appears to capture the woman being restrained and struck on the head by another woman, believed to be affiliated with the stall. Subsequently, the victim is shown tied to a tree while a male individual, purportedly a relative of the stall owner, is seen verbally abusing her and striking her on the head on two separate occasions.
The graphic nature of the video has fueled public anger, with numerous individuals demanding justice for the victim. The incident has also raised serious concerns regarding vigilantism and the erosion of respect for the legal process.
The Malpe police have confirmed that they are investigating the matter and will register a case. “We have taken cognizance of the incident and have launched an investigation,” a police official stated. We will take action against those responsible for the assault and ensure that justice is served according to the law.”
