Over 1500 Students Join Hands for Cleanliness Campaign at Malpe- Padukere Beach

Udupi: More than 1500 volunteer’s including students from various colleges; peoples Representatives and others took part in the beach cleanliness campaign at Malpe Padukere on November 12.

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers D V Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the cleanliness campaign along with Udupi Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje.

Addressing the gathering Minister Sadananda Gowda said that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Youth should come forward to promote cleanliness drives. “Cleanliness is Godliness” is the mantra of Mahatma Gandhiji, the Father of the Nation. He demonstrated, propagated and insisted individual and community cleanliness throughout his life.

Mahatma Gandhi had a revolutionary vision of making India clean. The Swachhata Mission is integrated with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan towards realizing this laudable vision. To fulfil Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a clean and hygienic India. Narendra Modi himself initiated the cleanliness drive. Cleanliness is a clean habit which is very necessary to all of us.

Institutes like the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) would help in skilling Indian youth to drive the Make In India programme as visualised by the Prime Minister. Gowda also said that people under the age of 35 formed nearly 65% of India’s population, and that more areas were being opened up to provide jobs.

Our Prime Minister has given a clarion call on last Independence Day speech on how single-use of plastic has to be taken away. In this direction, there is already a sense of confusion among the public as a complete ban on plastic is not possible. Plastic plays a major role in the day to day life of every individual.

Hence, awareness is necessary. Single-use of plastic and littering has to be stopped and for that purpose, 80 CIPET centres are directed to organise various functions and activities aiming at creating awareness regarding the prevention of single-use plastic, he said.

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Udupi Taluk Panchayat president Nitha Gururaj Poojary, DK and Udupi district fisheries federation president Yashpal Suvarna, Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh, Additional SP Kumarchandra and others were present.
