PRAVEEN CHANDRA ALVA , an Alumni of St Aloysius Institutions, Mangaluru at the helm as Opposition Leader in Mangaluru City Corporation Council All Set to Highlight the Shortcomings of the BJP Government and Lead a People’s Struggle
Mangaluru: If you go around the City, you will see a large number of hoardings /Banners displayed which proves the popularity and support PRAVEEN CHANDRA ALVA has after he took charge as the OPPOSITION LEADER in the Mangaluru City Corporation Council recently from Outgoing Opposition leader Naveen D’Souza. I can openly and frankly say that Praveen Chandra Alva is a Great Leader, who can make a difference and bring a change in the City. Though some people may already possess many of the skills and qualities that make a great leader, they can always grow and hone their leadership ability.
Leaders shape our nations, communities, and organizations. And here is a man having the qualities of Integrity, Self-Awareness, Courage, Respect, Empathy, Communication, Delegation, Learning Agility, Influence, Respect and Gratitude, and we can all trust is such good leaders to help guide us and make the essential large-scale decisions that keep our City and Community moving. I have personally watched his leadership and courageous power during the MCC council meetings, and he is no doubt extraordinary from the rest of the Councillors. Leaders, even the most resilient ones, have to go through many challenges and face many hurdles before they can transform an organization or society. It may appear like a daunting task, but it is certainly not impossible.
And for that matter, Alva has shown his capabilities as a political leader, being elected twice as the Corporator in Kankanady Ward No 49, and second time getting 2653 votes against BJP: Vijay Kumar Shetty with 1634 votes. He has served as the block president of Mangalore South Youth Congress, vice president of All college student union, district vice-president of bus employee union and secretary of Bunt’s Sangha Jeppina Mugeru among other unions. He was an active student at St Aloysius Institutions, Mangaluru right from his early schooling till he graduated in BA.
If you want to make history and become one of the great leaders, you need to acquire certain success-worthy traits- and Alva has proved it. As a Corporator, he has not prioritized quantity over quality: a mistake that often costs leaders their mission. Although it is good to have numbers on your side, numbers alone can not win you wars. He always had people who were consistent and never got scared easily. One good follower is better than 10 mediocre ones, that is what Alva believed in to stay as a good leader/Corporator, thereby gaining the confidence of the people. He had faced lots of challenges but fought over them successfully. He has been proactive in his approach with the people, thereby gaining confidence from them.
Good leaders focus on making the lives of people relatively better, not perfect; they know that the latter is not possible. They focus less on making grand claims and prioritize meaningful action. They celebrate small wins and appreciate every small victory. And that is exactly what Praveen Chandra Alva did as a corporator and strong leader in the local Congress party. Human beings feel most relaxed when they are working in a familiar environment, an environment that is shielded by norms, beliefs, and traditional ideas. Any person that aims to change the status quo or introduce a new way will face many challenges.
However, Alva is all set to rise to the challenge and succeed in his mission as the Opposition Leader in the MCC Council to bring certain changes which had failed miserably under the earlier state government also would lead a Peoples’ struggle. I am confident that he will make history by revolutionizing this task/field, all he needs is the right vision and courage; a lot of courage, and peoples’ support irrespective of caste, religion and political parties.
On a final note, Praveen Chandra Alva assured that he would work tirelessly as the opposition leader to highlight the shortcomings of the BJP government and lead a people’s struggle. He also expressed his commitment to unite all members of the opposition in the corporation and conduct a people’s fight.
