Parents Should Educate their Children on Consequences of Travelling on Footboard of Buses – SP Nimbaragi

Udupi: The Police department will initiate action against the conductors of buses permitting passengers to travel on the footboard violating the permit conditions. Parents are also responsible, they should educate their children on the consequences of travelling on the footboard of buses said Laxman Nimbargi Superintendent of Police, Udupi District.

He was replying to a query by a caller during his weekly phone-in programme at the SP office on Friday, January 18. As per the norms, the doors of the buses should be closed whenever the buses are in motion. Unfortunately, in Our district buses do not follow the practice of closing the doors while moving. Parents should educate their children about the consequences of travelling on the footboards of buses. Only then will we be able to solve this problem, he said.

A caller from Udupi congratulated the police department for introducing colour coding for Auto Rickshaws and requested to implement the colour coding system effectively.

The SP said that each auto-driver will be given an alphanumeric code depending on the area in which he/she operates. The code is to be printed on a colour-coded number plate and displayed in the front and rear of the vehicle. There should be two colour codes representing City Auto and Rural. It will help to identify autos plying in the city illegally as the alphanumeric code and special number plate will be provided after verification of the documents of every vehicle, he said.

A Caller from Malpe complained that many people in Padukere were riding with two pillion riders on motorcycles which is dangerous for the riders as well as the public. The majority of those who ride two-wheelers with two pillion riders are the youth. This leads to road accidents causing harm to the riders, pedestrians as well as other road users. Carrying more persons than allowed should be strictly avoided in order to ensure road safety. SP directed the Traffic police to take stern action against those not following the rules.

There were complaints of shrill horns, street light problems, senior citizens problems and other issues during the phone-in programme. As many as 15 complaints were registered during the phone-in programme.

Nimbargi speaking to reporters said that in the past three weeks; as many as 11 arrests were made in the 10 cases filed for playing Matka, 3 arrests in 1 gambling case, 1 arrest for the sale of illegal liquor, 1 arrest in NDPS case. Also, 66 cases were registered under COTPA, 15 for drunk driving, 182 cases for the use of shrill horns, 88 cases for speaking on mobile while riding, 104 cases for over speeding, 2825 cases for violation of riding without helmets and 4595 cases under the Motor Vehicle Acts were registered in the district.
