Kundapur: A bandh call given on Tuesday, December 19, demanding to handover Paresh Mesta’s case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), was largely peaceful in Gangolli of Kundapur Taluk.
The bandh call was given by the Hindu Jagarana Vedike Gangolli Unit, No untoward incidents were reported.
Following the protest, private and KSRTC buses did not ply on the roads. Barring medical shops, all other shops were closed. However, the supply of milk and newspapers remained unaffected.
The protesters led by Hindu Jagarana Vedike held a massive protest rally from Gangolli Harbour which passed through Gangolli Town, Nayakwadi, Gujjadi, Trasi Circle and culminated at the Kodappadi Grounds. More than Ten thousand protesters gathered for the Protest.
Addressing the protesters K T Ullas south zone general secretary of Hindu Jagarana Vedike said that after the Congres government came to power as many as 20 Hindutva activists have been killed in the State and the government is conveniently silent over these killings. He blamed the Congress leaders for the increase in crimes, particularly the killings of Hindu activists. No doubt, the Congress has backed such incidents. Paresh Mesta a Hindu Activist of Honnavar was brutally killed by Jihadi activists but the government claims it as normal death. Though he was murdered, the post-mortem report was tempered by the State government. If in the same way, the government tries to neglect the Hindus, people will teach them a lesson in coming elections, he added.
Raviraj Kadaba of Hindu Jagarana Vedike said that the state government has no guts to arrest the real culprits in Paresh Mesta’s case. The state government is taking a anti-Hindu stand on the issue and is hurting the religious sentiments of the majority. The Siddaramaiah government and the police in Karnataka are working to protect Mesta’s alleged killers. The government is pressurizing the officials to give favorable reports, he added.
Later the protesters submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Karnataka through the Tahsildar. Kundapur Thashildar G A Borker received the memorandum.
The district police had made tight security arrangements in the communally sensitive place Gangolli to avoid any untoward incidents. Dr Sanjeev M Patil superintendent of Police Udupi district was personally present during the protest and assisted in maintaining security.
