Pathetic & Shabby Rs 12 Cr Kadri Park Road Work Condemned by Congress during Protest
Mangaluru: The word for the Kadri Park Road work that Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) is doing could be called as “SHABBY”, “PATHETIC” and “UNSCIENTIFIC”! In order to please the citizens of Mangaluru and the motorists doing such kind of shabby work is nothing but fooling us all. And with the incessant rains that has put a spell on this Coastal city, has even made the entire stretch of this road work messy, and slushy, with red mud mixed with rain water- and is a safety hazard for motorists, especially two-wheeler riders. Even the pedestrians, who come to the Park for walk and jog, are finding a tough time walking on some slippery slush spots, where they could also slip and fall- and such condition is seen right in front of the Kadri Park gate and around. So why are these officials delaying in the work since six months wasting taxpayers/citizens money, by doing such a shabby and unscientific work, which is a total waste of time, energy and above all, MONEY!
With modern technologies the work could have been done faster, unfortunately that’s not the case here, where the contractor and workers are taking their own time, slow and easy, thereby putting the life of motorists and commuters in hardship. The present condition of the ongoing road work seems to be quite hazardous for motorists using the entire stretch of the road. Some of the patched spots have already sunk deep, with vehicles passing over them, and you see a bunch of deep potholes too. People riding on two wheelers and driving light vehicles are giving perplexed looks at the shabby and slow work. So why is nobody from MSCL supervising how the work is carried, instead of sitting in their cabins, and trusting on contractors/laborers work.
In order to highlight the present condition of the Kadri Park road, members of the district Congress staged a protest over the shabby, pathetic, unscientific, and delay in the development work at Kadri Park , on Monday 21 September 2020. Former MLA J R Lobo addressing the protesters said, “Ever since the work on this Kadri Park Development Work which started nearly six months ago, has been going on a slow pace, leading to the pathetic and shabby condition of the entire stretch of the road. When the tender process was in progress, the estimated cost was said as Rs 4 crore, but now under the Smart City Development Project, it has jumped to Rs 12 core”
“This road should not be used for vehicular movement, since Kadri park is a tourist spot, and now since they have already started upgrading the road, MSCL should see that the road is done scientifically, with basic facilities. If you look inside the Kadri park, it has been totally neglected, with grass grown everywhere, and water stranded at many spots-even the park seats are in bad shape. The toy train is non operational, similar is the case of the musical fountain, launched not long ago. It looks like MSCL and MCC are spending money on development projects over the limit, which should be investigated. Few of the projects where crores of money was sanctioned during the Congress rule, is being misused or pocketed, and even the work is not done the right way. This shows that the MLA has totally failed in his promises and projects. We urge that the government and local administration should expedite all the pending projects at the earliest, if not face more protests from Congress party, at all the project sites” said J R Lobo.
Also speaking , former MCC Mayor Mahabala Marla said, “During the tenure of J R Lobo as Mangaluru South Constituency MLA, every development works were done systematically and to the desired standards, keeping safety of people in mind. If you now look at some of the projects undertaken, every one of them is done slowly and shabby. It should be known that in case of utility works, drainage, electric works, water supply etc, there has to be a tender system, unfortunately these projects are carried on in secret and separately. Congress party urges that the government and local officials finish the works soon, without further delay, by not putting the people into inconveniences and hardships”.
Typical third world corruption. Very disappointing.
