Patriotic Spirit mark Republic day Celebrations in Udupi

Udupi: The district administration celebrated the 70th Republic Day at the MGM Ground Indrali, here on January 26.

District minister in-charge, Dr Jayamala, hoisted the national Flag. She then received a guard of honour from the district police force, NCC, Scouts and the Guides.

In her address, Minister Jayamala briefed over various development works taken up by the government in the district. She said that the people friendly administration by the state government has aided many development programmes to ensure all-round development. an amount of Rs 9.13 crore was set aside under Coastal Circuit scheme to upgrade basic facilities at the beaches.

the minister said the development of beaches in turn will promote tourism. “Under Blue Flag certification programme, Padubidri beach is set to receive Rs eight crore.”

She emphasised that the tourism project was launched in the district to boost the economy. Due to Heli Tourism, houseboat, home stay, water sports scuba diving, the number of visitors to the district had increased by many folds. .

Under Nagarothana scheme’s third phase, Rs 62 crore worth action plan was chalked out for carrying out repair works on 52 main roads, drainage system and to provide drinking water facilities. She said additional funds were released to help urban local bodies complete housing schemes. As many as 82 malnutrition children had been identified in the district. The health of 42 children had improved due to better health care facilities, she added.

An amount of Rs 96 lakh was allocated for the childhood malnutrition eradication programme which would cover 48 c hildren in 2018-19.

Dr Sarvotham Udupa DD animal husbandry, Chandrashekar Naik DD Agricultral Department, Sankaranarayana Bhat, Backward class department, Anitha Bhaskar DD Tourism department, Revenue staff Laxminarayana Bhat, Sridhar were felicitated with Sarvothama Awards.

Students from various schools and colleges presented a cultural programme on the occasion.

Raghupati Bhat MLA Udupi, Dinakar Babu president Zilla Panchayat, Nalini Pradeep Rao president TP, Priyanka Mary Francis DC Udupi, Vidya Kumari Additional DC, Laxman Nimbargi SP Udupi, Sindhu Rupesh CEO Udupi ZP, Kumarachandra Additional SP were present on the occasion.
