Patriotic Spirit Marks Republic Day Celebrations in Udupi District
Udupi: The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with great fervor at the Mahatma Gandhi District Ground in Ajjarkad, Udupi, on January 26.
The solemn occasion, a celebration of India’s constitutional democracy, was marked by a palpable sense of pride and patriotic spirit among the attendees. In the absence of the District Minister In-charge, Laxmi Hebbalkar, the flag was hoisted by state Revenue Minister Krishna Byaregowda, who also received the guard of honour from the district police force alongside members of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Scouts, and Guides.
Minister Byaregowda, in his address, reflected on India’s historical trajectory, articulating that the nation has emerged from the shadows of both internal and external dominions. He emphasized the transformative power of the Constitution, drafted by Dr B R Ambedkar, which has endeavored to uphold the tenets of equality and justice for over seven decades. However, he poignantly noted the stark disparities that persist in contemporary Indian society, where wealth accumulates disproportionately among the affluent while the underprivileged face escalating hardship. To mitigate these inequalities, the state government’s Five Guarantee scheme is poised to enhance economic security and welfare for those most in need.
Moreover, the event showcased the state’s commitment to modernizing agricultural practices through initiatives like the Bhoomi Suraksha project, aimed at digitizing land records. This innovative approach seeks to alleviate the historical challenges farmers face, such as irregularities and administrative inefficiencies, thus contributing to a more equitable agricultural landscape.
The occasion was further enriched by the recognition of progressive farmers and student achievers, underscoring the district’s dedication to fostering educational and agricultural excellence. Cultural presentations by students from various educational institutions added a festive dimension to the celebrations, illustrating the vibrant spirit of youth engagement in national events.
The presence of dignitaries such as Yashpal Suvarna MLA Udupi, Manjunath Bhandary MLC, Dr. Vidya Kumari DC Udupi, Dr Arun K SP Udupi, UUDA Dinakar Heroor lent significance to the celebrations, reinforcing communal bonds and collective aspirations.
