Patriotic Spirit, Pomp mark 68th R-day Celebrations in Udupi

Udupi: The 68th Republic Day celebrations marked the patriotic spirit with pomp at the Mahatma Gandhi City Municipal Ground Beedinagudde, Udupi here on January 26.

State Minister for sports, youth service and fisheries and District minister in-charge, Pramod Madhwaraj, hoisted the national Flag. He then received a guard of honour from the district police force, NCC, Scouts and Guides.

In his address Minister Pramod briefing on the various development works taken up by the government in the district said that, the people friendly administration by the state government has aided many development programmes to ensure all round development.

As many as Rs 185.9 crore has been provided for improvement of the underground drainage and water supply of Udupi city Municipality under the Karnataka Integrated Urban Water Management Program. Rs 60 crore has been sanctioned under Nagarothana project to the district. Rs 63 crore have been spent Under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme in the district. The state government has introduced ‘Karnataka State Private Commercial Vehicle Drivers Accident Insurance Scheme’ through the Karnataka State Unorganised Labourers Social Security Board. The scheme will benefit drivers with commercial private vehicle driving license including autorickshaws, taxi, maxicab, lorry and private buses and provide them with an insurance cover of Rs two lakh. Additional funds of Rs 10 crore have been released to the district Suvarna Grama Yojana. A sum of Rs 76.52 crore is sanctioned by the state government for the maintenance of rural roads and bridges. The construction of the third stage jetty of the Malpe Fisheries Harbour would be completed soon, he said

The Sarvothama Seva Awards were conferred on Dr B B Rao of the Primary health centre Padubidiri, K Shanker Nayak project and survey officer Zilla Panchayat Udupi, Shanker Sherigar deputy agriculture officer Kota, N Devaraju Taluk officer Ambedkar Nigama, Pravathi food inspector, Taluk panchayat and T Shukathulla deputy Thasildar Kaup. Various students were honoured for their achievements in sports at the National and State-level. Cultural programmes with the essence of devoted nationalistic fervour marked the republic day celebrations.

Dinakar Babu president Zilla panchayat, Meenakshi Madhava president CMC Udupi, Nalini Pradeep Rao president Taluk Panchayat, Venkatesh deputy commissioner, ZP CEO Priyanka Mary Francis, Anuradha additional DC, K T Balakrishna SP Udupi, Vishnuvardhan ASP Udupi among others were present.
