Pejawar Swamiji calls for Research, Study of Ancient Texts at the Indology Conference-Udupi

Udupi: The three-day international conference on ‘dispassionate churning of Indology’, organised by the Bharatiya Vidvat Parishad and the Tattvasamshodhana Samsat with support from Indian Council for Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi, and Indic Academy, Hyderabad, began at Rajangana here on Friday. About 250 scholars from different parts of the country and abroad are deliberating upon Shastras and Indology-related topics at the meet.

The themes of this conference include a review of Indological Studies, research in Shastras/Indian philosophies, ancient Indian pedagogy, ancient Indian sciences, Indic research methodology, Vedic studies, the Mahabharata and the Purana studies, and digital Sanskrit and computational linguistics.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math said truth could be found only if research was done without any bias. It was wrong to believe that everything ancient was not useful and everything modern was useful. There should be a proper and in-depth study of ancient texts. Ancient India had a rich culture. The ancient Indian texts provided rich philosophical insight, he said.

S.R. Bhat, president of ICPR, said that it was necessary to remove the wrong conceptions about ancient Indian history and culture created by Western and Left-leaning historians. It was necessary to give a correct picture of Ancient Indian history and culture, he said.

Ashok Aklujkar, Emeritus Professor, University of British Columbia, Canada, who is also the president of the conference, said that seeing Indian history and culture through Western prism was incorrect.
