People Protest as Section 144 in Place, Police Resort to Lathi Charge, Detained
Mangaluru: As section 144 was in place in Mangaluru Police Commissionerate, a group of people from Nellikai Road, Bunder came near the DC office shouting slogans on December 19. The police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd, 10 persons were arrested.
After the implementation of NRC and CAB, many people and organisations have expressed their opposition and held protests against the bill. Recently a group of people without permission from the police had protested and blocked the road near Balmatta causing inconvenience to the public. To disperse the protesters the police resorted to Lathi charge and arrested 38 members of the CFI.
On December 18, Police Commissioner Dr Harsha through the media urged the people not to take the law into their hands, nor protest without obtaining permission. To avoid any untoward incidents section 144 was imposed in the Mangaluru police commissionerate, and Dakshina Kannada district.
As section 144 was imposed, on December 19 at around 2:30 pm a group of people from Nellikai road marched towards the DC office shouting slogans. The police resorted to lathi-charge and took about 10 persons into custody.
All the arrested were taken to the Pandeshwar police station for further investigation.
