People Violate Social Distancing Norms in Udupi Vegetable Market

Udupi: People were seen crowding in the vegetable market in Adi-Udupi on Wednesday completely violating social distancing norms by the government during the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

People’s representatives are moving around in groups and are purchasing essential items to needy people, without maintaining the social distance of at least one meter between each other, as per the guidelines.

After getting the information, the town Police quickly arrived at the spot and cleared the crowd.

“We had a hard time convincing the crowd about the importance of maintaining social distance. Many of them started arguing with our officers. After continuous effort we succeeded in clearing the crowd”, said a police officer.

The Udupi district administration has asked people to maintain social distancing at all times and avoid stepping out of their house unnecessarily to curb the spread of coronavirus in the district.

Today is the 22nd day of the nationwide lockdown imposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24 as a precautionary measure against the spread of the virus.
