Pette Pettu? Bus drivers & Conductors Jagala Creates Panic among Women & Kids Passengers

Mangaluru: No matter how many times our city private bus drivers and conductors get warning from the traffic police, or even get arrested for their behaviour and breaking traffic rules, and even after constant complaints on them during the Police Commissioner’s Phone-In-Programme, but nothing seems to be changing in their attitude, behaviour or character. This is like, “We may try to straighten a dog’s tail; whatever you do, it will never become straight but always curved. It is usually renowned with the human’s when they do something mischievousness. Everyone around him/her will be in complete fear and they will say that whatever we do to this person, it is like a dog’s curved tail, which can never be straightened, because he will never change his behaviour. So are our private Bus drivers and Conductors?

The main reason for these drivers and conductors to stick to their old habits is because our cops are not too strict, and even if the drivers and conductors get caught for their behaviour, they get released soon- and once again they are back with their same habits. There are drivers still behind the wheels who have created accidents and killed innocent people- what has the police done about it? Here is an incident that took place yesterday, Thursday 1 November around 1.30 pm, where there was a confrontation between the drivers and conductors of two private buses happening in front of the passengers, especially women and kids seated in the front row, which was caught on passengers smartphones, and that act of the bus crew had gone viral- with viewers posting their comments. Sources reveal that two private city buses were competing with each other, racing on the road, thereby putting the lives of the commuters in danger. When both buses reached Kottara, the bus behind the other, overtook it and brought it a halt right in front of the other bus.

Immediately the conductor from the bus stepped down and ran into the other bus and assaulted the driver and also the conductor for overtaking, and also used foul language in front of the women and kids passengers. Witnessing the act, passengers clicked the drama on their mobile phones and publicized it on social media, thereby sending a message to the public and police to take action against such bus crew and make them stop such behaviour in future. This is not the first time passengers are experiencing such kind of driver/conductor behaviour, but many such instances have happened in the past- and the traffic police have taken it easy with no improvements whatsoever, in spite of weekly phone-in-programme where complaints are made to the PC to take action, but all in vain?

Even if the bus owners are booked for their wrongdoing under the Indian Motor Vehicle Act, but they easily get away by paying the said fine or use their influence. It is learnt that ACP Manjunath Shetty has seized both the buses and the case has been handed over to the Urwa police jurisdiction. According to ACP, the drivers and conductors of both the buses, Prashanth, Shekhar, Hussain and Mohammed Jihad have been arrested and booked under Section 160 IPC ( Committing Affray).

As per the information submitted by Information Officer Khader Shah, the two buses involved in this incident are – Route No45 C, A.R Travels, KA19 AA 585; and 15 A, SRI RAM travels, KA19 AA 27. But I have a feeling that all the four bus crew might have been released, and probably back on business in their respective buses- and once again waiting to get in trouble with the law for their behaviour or breaking traffic rules. Oh well, that’s how our private city bus system runs, and commuters have to bear with all the hardship and inconveniences. Seems like a NEVER ENDING STORY?
