Phone-in: Citizens Complain to Udupi SP on Money Lending with High Interest

Udupi: The district administration accepted the feasibility study report on smoothing traffic flow at intersections and locations of NH-66 prepared by MIT Manipal said SP Laxman Nimbargi. He was speaking to the media persons during his weekly phone-in programme on Friday, March 2.

The district administration along with the officials of National Highway Authority of India held a meeting recently in this regard. The district police identified 15 black spots on NH-66 between Thekatte to Padubidri junction. They are the Thekkatte Junction, Guru-Narashima Temple Junction, Saligrama-Gundmi Junction, Brahmavar Akashavani Junction, Mahesh Hospital cross, Santhekatte, Ashirvad Junction, Baliga–Fish net cross, Karavali, Ambalpadi Junction, Udyavar Junction, Katpadi Junction, Innanje Junction, Kaup Junction and Padubidri Junction. The administration instructed the NHAI to find a solution to avoid accidents, he said.

During the Phone-in programme, the majority of the public urged the police to take effective action against people who lend money at exorbitant interest rates. SP Laxman Nimbarig said that the department has initiated steps against people who lend money with very high interest rates.

The police superintendent registered as many as 23 complaints during the phone-in programme.

A complainant from Brahmavar said that matka is played near Brahmavar and the officials are blind. A woman caller said that the bank officials have been torturing her by not returning the money paid by her to the society. SP directed her to approach the Police.

Another caller said that vehicles are parked on the road near Githanjali Silks leading to a traffic jam in the city, SP said that he will take appropriate action. Another caller urged the SP to initiate strict action against the School bus operators for using shrill horns, SP said that he will take appropriate action.

A caller from Manipal said that the buses are being parked in a middle of the road making it difficult for the other vehicles to move. SP said that he will take appropriate action.

A woman caller said that gutka and Illegal liquor was being sold at a petty shop in Kundapur and the SP was told that action would be taken against the shop which was selling it.

A caller from Udupi said that a hotel was running a prostitution racket for which the SP said that he will take appropriate action. A caller from Udupi complained about the irregular parking near the Ashirvad theatre.

ASP Karkala Rishikesh Sonavane, DySP Udupi Kumaraswamy were present during the Phone-in programme.
