Phone-in Programme a huge success, Completes 25 Weeks – Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar

Mangaluru: “On every Friday we have organised the Phone-in programme which has now completed 25 weeks. The one-hour phone-in programme has been a huge success as we have received an overwhelming response from the people”, said police commissioner Chandra Sekhar in a press meet held at his office here on January 27.

Addressing the mediapersons Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar said, “In the 25 weeks of the phone-in programme we have received 403 calls, out of which we have attended 373 complaints and taken action. Problems of Ten callers were partially attended and of 20 other callers were transferred to other departments.”

Most of the complaints were related to the law and order and traffic. We have received 261 complaints related to traffic, 52 complaints related to law and order, 56 complaints related to other departments and 34 complaints which were directly solved.

The highest calls we received in 25 weeks were related to the traffic problems of which 45% are related to parking, 22% in regard to buses and travel, 17% on the negligence of the drivers and reckless driving, 2% on vehicles transporting fish and 14% other issues.

We have registered 48,464 cases related to traffic violation and have collected a penalty of Rs 39,07,600. On the 52 calls related to law and order, 3866 cases were registered with a penalty of Rs 3,79,825 and arrested 321 of the accused. We have already transferred 20 calls to the respective departments where their complaints are being investigated. We have organised awareness programmes to the police personnel at various police stations based on the calls received from the public.

Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar said, “With the support and co-operation of the media, social media and the public the phone-in programme so far has been very successful”.

DCP Law and Order Shantharaju and DCP Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil were also present.
