Police Arrest Three including two Afghan Nationals in Arun Jewellery store Burglary Case

Mangaluru: The team of Mangaluru North Police arrested three persons in relation to the Arun Jewellery store, Bhavanthi Street burglary case on September 26.

The arrested have been identified as Muthasim CM alias Taslim alias Don Taslim (39) resident of Kasargod, Wali Mohammed Safi alias Safi (45) and Mohammed Azim Khuram alias Azim (25) both Afghan nationals.

Addressing the media persons at a press meet held at the Commissioners office, Commissioner of Police Dr Harsha said, on September 3 Srikanth Shet proprietor of Arun Jewellery store Bhavanthi Street, Mangaluru lodged a complaint at the Mangaluru North Police Station saying that on the intervening night of September 2 to 3, some unknown persons had burgled his jewelry shop by cutting through the safe locker of his store with a gas drill and gaining entry through the back of his shop and decamped with gold and silver jewelry worth of Rs 1,12,06, 871.

During the course of investigations credible information was gathered by the team that the offense might have been committed by a professional gang of property offenders.

Utilizing all the technical and conventional sources of information the team successfully nabbed an international crime syndicate of 3 persons on September 23 from Kasargod, Kerala State.

The trio were brought to Mangaluru City and were interrogated thoroughly. During interrogation, the prime accuse Muthasim CM alias Taslim confessed that he was the chief architect of conspiracy in aid of Afghan nationals seasoned in crimes. They had committed the theft at Arun Jewellery store, along with his four associates of which two, Kunhi Ahmed and Farid are absconding. He divulged in detail the mode of commission of the theft. It also came to light that of the four associates three are Afghan Nationals who have also been involved in other criminal cases.

All the accused were produced before the court on September 24. The accused were remanded to Police custody in order to complete the investigation. As two of the arrested accused are foreign nationals, report about the arrest has been forwarded to the Deputy Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi for transmitting the same to the Embassy of Afghanistan as per Protocol. Another accused Afghan National Farid is yet to be arrested. Search for the other accused is on. As a result of the investigation stolen gold in the form of Gold Bars and jewels weighing 2.753 kg worth Rs 90 lakhs have been recovered so far. Further search for the stolen property, in this case, is on. The case is presently under investigation.

Under the direction of the Commissioner of Police Mangaluru City Dr Harsha and the able guidance of Lakshmi Ganesh DCP (Crime & Traffic), Bhaskar Vokkaliga (ACP Central), Shivprakash Naik PI & Kabbalraj PSI of CCB, PI Govindaraju & PSIs Pradeep T R & Sundar of North Police Station the operation was carried out by the staff of CCB, North Police Station & ACP Central Squad.
