Police assault KRV activists over Suspicion in murder

Udupi: The members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Hassan were allegedly assaulted by the Mandya police over suspicion in a murder at Hebri here on June 8.

On June 7, The members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike from Hassan had arrived to Udupi to take part in the protest “Kasargodu Chalo”, held in front of the Clock Tower Udupi. On the way to Udupi, they had halted in a hotel at Hebri so that they could continue their journey to Udupi on June 8.

The Mandya police were also in Hebri to investigate a murder case. On June 8, early morning the Mandya police searched for the accused in the same hotel where Rakshana Vedike Members had halted. The police checked their room and on suspicion assaulted them.

The president of the Hassan Rakshana Vedike Satish Patil speaking to media persons said that he together with his unit members were allegedly assaulted by the police and were threatened at gun point. But later the police apologized for their mistake saying that it was misidentification. Patil said that he will complain to the higher authorities.

The police are said to have later apologized to the KRV members.
