Police Commemoration Day Observed in Udupi District

Udupi: The Udupi District police on Saturday, October 21 joined the rest of their colleagues in the country to pay their respects to the police personnel who died in the line of duty on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.

The Udupi District and Session Judge Shanthaveera Shivappa participated as the chief guest of the function and paid tribute to police personnel who died in the line of duty.

In his message, he said that the dedication and sacrifice of police personnel who often give their lives in the line of duty to uphold peace in society. He emphasized the need for people to collaborate with the police by adhering to law and order. The best way to remember their sacrifices and show respect is by emulating their ways. We need to remember their sacrifices every day, he said.

Dr Arun K said that the day is observed annually to pay respect to the 10 policemen who were killed by Chinese troops in an ambush at the Hot Springs area near Ladakh on October 21, 1959. Around 189 policemen, including 10 from Karnataka, died while on duty from September 1, 2022, to August 31, 2023, in the country.

Udupi DC Dr Vidya Kumar, CID IGP Praveen Madhukar Pawar, Udupi ZP CEO Prasanna H, DCF Kundapur Udya M Nayak, Additional SP S T Siddalingappa were present.
