Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar Inaugurates Navarathri Utsav
Mangaluru: The auspicious Navarathri Utsav was inaugurated at Shree Gokarnanatha Kshetra, Kudroli here on October 1.
Police commissioner M Chandra Sekhar inaugurated the Navarathri Utsav at the Kudroli temple by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries.
After the inauguration speaking to the mediapersons Chadra Sekhar said, “In Dakshina Kannada district Navarathri Mahotsava is celebrated with grandeur. People have gathered here with discipline to celebrate the festival. The spirit of the festival is the victory of good over evil. Let us celebrate the festival as per our custom and tradition and understand the spirit of the festival”.
Chandra Sekhar requested the organizers to depute volunteers and coordinate with the police so that efficient security arrangements will be made. Around 800 policemen as well as 350 home guards have been assigned for security purpose. We need good volunteers to help us see that the festival will go on smoothly.
Spokesperson of the Temple Harikrishna Bantwal said, “Mangaluru Dasara has created a heaven on earth. The 9 km stretch of road including the temple has been decorated with 21 lakh bulbs. We have fixed 10 lakh bigger size lights and 11 lakh LED lights. This is the first time we have decorated the temple and surrounding area. The procession will take 12 hours starting at 4:00 pm and will culminate the next day morning at 7:00 am. This kind of procession of 12 hours is a first of its kind in the world. Nearly 20 lakh people will witness the Mangaluru Dasara this year.”
H S Sairam, Padmaraj R, Urmila Ramesh Kumar, B K Taranath, Ravinshanker Mijar, Malathi Janardhan Poojary, Srikar Poojary and others were also present.
