Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil Flags off ‘Rani Abbakka Pade’ in City

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru police commissionerate under the leadership of Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil launched the “Rani Abbakka Pade”, (All women police force) at the City Centre Mall here on April 30.

The Rani Abbakka Pade was flagged off by police commissioner Sandeep Patil along with DCP Law and Order Hanumantharaya and DCP Crime and Traffic Lakshmi Ganesh.

Addressing the mediapersons Sandeep Patil said, “All the districts of Karnataka are forming police forces that consist of all-female police personnel. We have formed this police force in order to address the problems faced by women and children in this city. There are many areas in the city where women may need the help of police officers. Some of these areas include colleges, beaches, temples, malls, public transport, etc. In some cases, women may hesitate to approach male police officers and constables. However, women will not hesitate to approach female police personnel and inform them of their problems.”

Sandeep Patil further said, “The Rani Abakka Pade consists of 50 female police personnel. They will conduct random checks at critical spots such as beaches, malls and public buses. This will protect women from crimes such as eve-teasing, chain-snatching, bag-snatching etc. Mangaluru is also a tourist destination. Every year, there are several tourists, including foreign tourists, who visit the city. This police force will address their problems and protect them as well.”

Sandeep Patil also said, “We were thinking of giving a unique name for the women police force. At that time, we thought of Rani Abakka Devi who had bravely fought against the Portuguese army in this region. That is why we have named this police force after her.”
