Police Commissionerate Bids Farewell to Five Retired Police Officers
Mangaluru: Five senior police officers from the Mangaluru City Police Department retired from duty in a formal farewell function held at the Police Commissioner’s Office here, on June 29.
Police Inspector Shivprakash, PSI Venkatesh, ASI Arun Kumar, PSI Vivekananda Padiyar, and ASI Purni Gowda were the five police officials who retired from duty. The retiring officials were dressed smartly and some of them were even accompanied by their family members.
Many of the retiring officers had completed over 30-40 years of service in various police departments across the state. Police Inspector Shivprakash, who is affectionately called ‘Shivanna’, has completed an overwhelming 35 years of police duty. In the farewell program, he was lauded for his leadership qualities and hailed as a hero. The Chief Guest of the program was DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya who proceeded to traditionally felicitate each of the five retiring officers and their families.
Addressing the gathering DCP Law and order Hanumantharaya said, “Since I was posted here two years ago, I have known Shivprakash. He used to bring me fruits whenever he visited his farm. Shivprakash is a bold and risk-taking Police Inspector. He has faced many hardships but always carried out his duty. It is tough to be a police inspector in this district as there are several incidents of crime and communal violence here.”
DCP Hanumantharaya further said, “During election season, we made Venkatesh the liason officer to a visiting Inspector General from Mumbai. He always used to praise Venkatesh and thank us for giving him a liason who is always alert and obedient. Most of you here have carried out more than 30-40 years of service and that is not easy, especially in a place like this. The government has given us a gun and power. We have such great powers that we can snatch away someone’s freedom anytime. We must not misuse this power.”
The DCP also urged the retiring officers to never give up on their physical fitness and try to engage themselves in some form of physical activity. He appealed to the five retiring officers to continue helping the police stations in cases that are pending.
Each of the retirees also addressed the gathering. As they recounted their experiences as a police officer, almost all of them expressed their gratitude to their wives and children for continually supporting them, no matter what.
DCP (Crime and Traffic) Laxmi Ganesh, ACP Srinivas, and other police personnel were also present at the event.
