Police Commissioner’s Hoarding Initiative Pays Off! Police Bust Cricket Betting Racket after Citizen’s Tip
Mangaluru: Recently, Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil had directed the Mangaluru City Police to put up public hoardings that asked citizens to report suspicious activity to the police via social media platforms like Twitter, Whatsapp, and e-mail.
This initiative proved to be especially useful on Monday, June 24 when police officials received a tip about an illegal cricket betting racket.
Acting on the tip-off, police personnel conducted a raid and arrested four individuals in connection with illegal World Cup cricket betting. Additionally, Rs 54 lakhs were also seized in cash.
The Police Department has identified the main accused as Karunakar, a bookie who was found to be operating the illegal betting enterprise from outside.
All the four accused are currently in police custody as investigation into the racket continues.
