Police Flag Day in City-59 Retired Personnel Honoured
Mangaluru: Paying tribute to the brave police personnel for their tireless service, unflinching courage and utmost dedication in maintaining Law and Order in our Society, the Mangaluru police Commissionerate, the Dakshina Kannada District Police and KSRP 7th Division- Mangaluru jointly observed Police Flag on Police grounds here, on April 2, 2017. Felicitation to retired police personnel and presentation of the guard of honour marked the Day. SP Bhushan Borase, DCP of Law and Order Shantharaju, and DCP of Traffic and Crime Dr Sanjeev Patil gave a brief report and progress of their departments.
The Police Flag Day was marked by march past by various police contingents namely the City Armed Reserve, District Armed Reserve and Karnataka State Reserve Police, among others, to the tune of the police band. Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru- Madan Gaonkar of Mangaluru who was the Chief Guest inspected the parade going around the ground in an open flower decorated white jeep. The parade was presided over by Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar, DCP-Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil, DK Superintendent of Police-Bhushan Gulabrao Borase; Janardhan R- Commandant, KSRP 7th Division, and DCP- Law and Order- Shantharaju, amidst other police personnel and well-wishers.The police flag day sticker was released by the chief guest on the occasion, and the collection was made for the police welfare fund.
Addressing the gathering Chief guest, Madan Gaonkar called upon the police staff to mark the occasion by rededicating themselves to society, He was appreciative of the police performance in Mangaluru during his tenure in Mangaluru , and praised Mangaluru as a unique City in the State. “People don’t realise the important role played by the police and are usually taken for granted, but we need to maintain our pride and work towards a good society, Every policeman to be accountable to their seniors,” he added.
He further said, “Now the police department have started people-friendly policing. Your brain is a bank and your tongue is an ATM because when you do not have knowledge, words will not come out of your mouth. We need to gain knowledge when we serve in the police department. We need to be disciplined and should not give the opportunity for the public to judge us. Police welfare is not only facilitating the retired police officers or honouring the children of the police personnel for securing ranks but is to understand the living condition of the police personnel because it is not up to the mark.”
Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar speaking on the occasion said, “On the police flag day it is customary to honour the retired police officers on the police flag day. Madan is a very disciplined police officer, all those who have done good work have received the CM’s medal. In Mangaluru we are honouring 6 police officers who have received the CM’s Medal. In 2015, we got 2 medals, 2016 – 4 medals and this year we have received 6 medals from the CM which is the highest compared to previous years. This is a recognition from the government for our hard work. I congratulate all police officers who have received the Medals. This year there were 340 promotions in the police commissionerate and around 200 promotions in DK district and this is the highest compared to all previous years. This year in the police commissionerate 1137 police officers and staff have undergone medical check-up which is a good move. Discussions are going on for extending the Arogya Bhagya to retired police officers and there are possibilities of extending it.”
Felicitation of retired police personnel was held and children of police officers who scored high marks in SSLC, PUC and Engineering were felicitated by sister of late SP Pushparaj Shetty, Nalini S Bhandary on the occasion. Nalini said, “This award is a tribute to my brother and will help me keep his name alive for the years to come.”
Health check up camp for the policemen was conducted by doctors from KMC hospital.
DCP Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil delivered the vote of thanks.
