The event was marked by march past by various police contingents along with the police band. Retired Additional SP Shekarappa was the Chief Guest who inspected the parade. The parade was presided over by IGP of Western Range, Amrit Paul IPS along with Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar, SP Dr Sharanappa and DCP Dr Sanjeev Patil. The police flag day sticker was released by Shekarappa on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Shekarappa said that a fit body and healthy lifestyle was of paramount importance in the police profession. He asked all policemen to maintain patience, courage and have compassion towards the public. “People don’t realize the important role played by the police and are usually taken for granted, but we need to maintain our pride and work towards a good society,” he added. Shekarappa advised every policeman to be accountable to their seniors.

Police Commissioner Chandrasekhar said, “Gratitude is the biggest virtue and it is necessary to show it to the policemen who have sacrificed their lifestyle in the line of duty. Policemen sacrifice precious times meant to be spent with families from the moment they wear their uniform up until the day of their retirement.” He urged people to contribute towards the police welfare fund as 25% of the entire fund would be used to provide welfare to the retired police personnel.

Felicitation of retired police personnel was held and children of police officers who scored high marks in SSLC, PUC and Engineering were felicitated by sister of late SP Pushparaj Shetty, Nalini S Bhandary on the occasion. Nalini said, “This award is a tribute to my brother and will help me keep his name alive for the years to come.”

Health check up camp for the policemen was conducted by doctors from KMC hospital.
