Police foil Protest against Kundapur PSI Nasir Hussain by Fringe Elements

Kundapur: The protest call given by fringe elements against PSI Nasir Hussain turned out to be a major embarrassment for them. Fringe elements had given a protest call against PSI Nasir Hussain for warning them for attacking the college students at Koteshwar, Udupi. The protest was organized near Shastri Circle Kundapur and only a few activists had gathered for the protest. The police took all of them into custody and later released.

The members of Hindu Jagarana Vedike had given a protest call against PSI Nasir Hussain for which the Police department had denied permission. They had announced a massive protest saying that PSI Nasir Hussain had abused them.

They had also circulated messages on WhatsApp saying that Nasir Hussain was anti-Hindu. The messages were posted on the social media with an intention to incite the youth. But the people who were convinced about the fair action taken by the police did not attend the protest called by HJV. Instead, people had shown their support to PSI Hussain without attending the protest.

Tight security arrangements were made as prior permission for the protest was not obtained from the authorities. District Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev Patil was also present to review the security arrangements. CPI Manjappa, PSI Nasir Hussain, KSRP and DAR Platoons were deputed to control the law and order situation.

On last Sunday Fringe elements had allegedly thrashed students who were on an outing at the Marawanthe Beach. Students had travelled in a car to Byndoor from Udupi. Two Muslim youth, their sister, a Christian and a Hindu girl were travelling in the vehicle.

The students while returning from Maravanthe beach were noticed by some fringe elements who later followed the vehicle in which they were travelling.

They then allegedly waylaid their vehicle and thrashed the students. The students said that they were friends who had visited Maravanthe for an outing. The students pleaded the fringe elements to let them go but the activists did not heed their request. People who had witnessed the confrontation immediately alerted the police.

The police who reached the spot took the students to the police station while those who had assaulted the students also followed them. The police after being convinced about the whereabouts of the students let them free. The police angered by the high drama of the fringe elements took them to task and warned them of legal consequences.

This report is a good example of what’s wrong in today’s India. First of all, referring to HJV as a ‘fringe elements’ is very condescending. I don’t remember reading similar usage when it came to PFI. Same way, the report says Police denied permission to hold a protest. They should realize that denying permission to hold protests is undemocratic. They could have allowed the protest and held HJV responsible for any violence or damage. By banning, they have turned HJV into a victim. Finally, the report says that the ‘fringe elements’ thrashed students. If it is true, why did police… Read more »
