Police, Journalists’ and MAHE to hold 5 km Awareness run against drug abuse on Sept 23
Udupi: The Udupi District police, Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association and Udupi Press Club in association with Manipal Academy of Higher Education and Manipal Runner’s Club are organizing an Awareness run against drug abuse on 23rd September said Dr H S Ballal Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University.
Speaking at a press meet held at the University Boardroom Dr H S Ballal said that the purpose of this run is to spread awareness about the growing menace of recreational drug abuse.
The run aims to shatter the prejudice and preach that drug-free is the way to be. The 5-kilometre run will be flagged off at 7:15 am in front of the University building and will take the runners through the scenic roads of runners paradise that is Manipal. The run will culminate in front of the University building, from where it was flagged off. There will be a valedictory function at the KMC greens after the Run where prizes will also be given.
The run will begin with a fun Zumba session and end with the cooldown, followed by a nutritious breakfast. All the runners will be receiving free t-shirts in order to signify that if all of us come together, we can end the growing menace of drug abuse in Manipal. The majority of participants will be college students who need to be made aware of the dangers of drug abuse.
The event will also highlight the anti-drug abuse initiative started by MAHE, which primarily focuses on curbing the increasing number of cases of drug possession and abuse and work towards a drug-free Manipal, he said.
