Police Lathi Charge protesters for Gheraoing Police Commissioner’s Office

Mangaluru: All the protesters of Popular Front of India have been arrested for gheraoing the police Commissioner’s office here on April 4.

The police have lathi charged the protesters of popular front of India for demanding justice.

Speaking to mangalorean.com DCP law and order Shantharaju said, “The Protesters from Popular Front of India did not take any permission from the police department to hold the protest in front of the Police commissioners office. Traffic was disrupted because of the road block. We had requested the protesters to vacate the road but they did not listen to us. To vacate them from the road, we had to use the force.”

Speaking to mangalorean.com one of the protesters said, “Last week Quraishi was in the court to attend a case. His case was in the morning, but the case was postponed for afternoon session. Quraishi then went to the canteen to have his lunch. When he was having lunch the CCB police arrested him and he was unable to appear before the court in the afternoon. Even after 7 days, Quraishi did not appear before the court, twice his family members got the search warrant for Quraishi. After 7 days Quraishi was produced before the court in a petty case with a threat not to reveal anything. Quraishi did not reveal the torture he had faced in custody. Now he is in the Intensive Care Unit suffering from Kidney problems. We demand that those involved in arresting him be punished and Quraishi be released. His family members should also be compensated.”

The protesters damaged the window panes of the bus and shouted slogans against the police.
