Police Open Fire at Notorious Criminal Gaurish in Self Defense
Mangaluru: Police opened fire at Notorious criminal Gaurish after he stabbed head constable Sheenappa at Jappinamogeru here on May 10 at around 11:00 pm.
According to the police on May 9, they received a complaint that Gaurish was extorting money and a case was filed in the Barke police station.
Based on the complaint the Barke police started investigating and the search was on for Gaurish. Getting reliable information on Gaurish’s whereabouts, the Barke police went after Gaurish to arrest him.
When Gaurish tried to flee, the police chased and cornered him. Gaurish got out of his car and stabbed police head constable Sheenappa while he was being arrested. Sensing danger Police Sub Inspector Kabbal Raj opened fire. Gaurish was injured in the ankle on the right leg.

Police commissioner Sandeep Patil, DCP Law and Order Hanumantharaya, DCP Crime and traffic Laxmi Ganesh, ACP Ram Rao and other police personnel visited the spot for further investigations.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil said, “Today we received a complaint against notorious criminal Gaurish about his extortion activities. We took the matter very seriously, filed an FIR and formed teams to nab him. When we checked his background and we found that Gaurish is involved in various criminal cases and 6 cases have been registered against him out which of 3 are murder cases”.
Sandeep Patil further said, “When our police team tried to arrest him, he tried to flee from the spot and the police chased him. When he was cornered and the police tried to arrest him, Gaurish attacked and injured one of our head constable Sheenappa with the dagger. Sub Inspector Kabbal Raj tried to get him to surrender but he continued to come forward with the dagger. In self-defense, our Sub Inspector had to open fire and the accused was injured in his ankle of his right leg. We have shifted HC Sheenappa and the accused Gaurish to the hospital for treatment”.
Sandeep Patil also said, “We have registered a case under section 353 and attempt to murder case. we are continuing our investigation in detail including the extortion case to find out who else is involved. Strict action will be taken against the accused in this matter”.
