Police Seize 33 Country-made Live Bombs, Three Arrested
Udupi: The Hebri Police seized 33 live country-made bombs and bomb-making materials from Albadi near Shankernaryana and arrested three persons on November 21.
The arrested have been identified as Nagesh Nayak (35), a resident of Arkunje Kanyana of Hebri, Gunakar Shetty (56) and Laxman Shetty (67) residents of Ardi near Albadi.
Speaking at the press conference superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev M Patil said that on November 21 the Hebri PSI and their team during routine rounds on receiving a tip-off stopped a two-wheeler rider Nagesh Nayak near Shivapura. When the police searched his two-wheeler they found a torch and knife, on questioning, he admitted that he was going to the forest to trap wild animals with the country made bombs. The police also seized 30 country-made bombs from the accused.
On November 22 the Karkala CPI and Hebri PSI arrested Gunakar Shetty (56) and Laxman Shetty who were supplying the country made bombs and seized 3 country-made bombs and a Motorcycle from both the accused.
Initial investigations revealed that the accused were using country-made bombs for killing wild animals. A detailed enquiry will be conducted under the leadership of ASP Karkala Rishikesh Sonavane. A sum of Rs 5000 was also announced as a reward for the team by the district police department.
