Political plunge? No plans, says Annamalai
Bengaluru: Deputy Commissioner of police (Bengaluru South) K Annamalai, hailed as ‘Singham’ of Karnataka, is said to have decided to hang up his boots and take a plunge into politics.
There has been buzz in the bureaucracy about Annamalai tendering his resignation after the Lok Sabha polls. Sources close to Annamalai revealed that the 2011 batch IPS officer has decided to join politics after discussions with his close friends, well-wishers and some of his batchmates.
Annamalai is said to have met a couple of senior RSS leaders in the recent past and discussed his decision. However, it is unclear whether he will join the BJP or any other party. “It is true that he met some senior RSS leaders. But that does not mean he is joining the BJP. In fact, he has not decided on joining any political party but will take a decision after submitting the resignation,” revealed a highly placed source in the RSS.
The sources revealed that Annamalai is likely to tender his resignation by May 28. “He has two things in mind — going back to his native state (Tamil Nadu) to take up social service and then plunge into politics later or join a national party once his resignation is accepted,” a source confirmed.
When DH called up Annamalai, the officer revealed that he had taken no such decision.
“No, I am not planning anything and I have not met anyone. Also, I am not going anywhere. I do not know from where these rumours are coming from,” Annamalai said.
However, several senior IAS officers from Tamil Nadu and serving in Karnataka confirmed about his decision to DH.
A 2011 batch IPS officer, Annamalai hails from Karur in Tamil Nadu. He began his career as an assistant superintendent of police, Karkala sub-division in 2013. He later served as superintendent of police in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts where he earned the love of the people.
In fact, there were district-wide protests when government ordered his transfer from Udupi.
