Politics is not Stage Play but a Reality Show – Minister Jayamala

Mangaluru: “From the past 45 years, you have supported me in my carrier and now the time has come for me to repay it. This land has given me birth, education and love. Now I have been given an opportunity to serve as a Minister. I had never expected this post in my dreams. I have great respect for my homeland. I will surely put hundred percent efforts to fulfill your demands,” said the Minister for Women and Child Development and Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, Jayamala in a press meet held at the Congress office here, on July 23.

Addressing the mediapersons, Jayamala said, “I have great respect for women, children and, senior citizens and now I am representing them as a minister. The Coalition government led by CM H D Kumaraswamy has given me the opportunity to serve as a minister. I would like to thank the former CM Siddaramaiah for his historic schemes which have never be done in the history of Karnataka by any politician after Devraj Urs. I would also like to thank Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, former CM Siddaramaiah and DCM Dr G Parameshwar for giving me an opportunity in the party. This is an interesting ministry for me and I will work for the welfare of the women. I want all the women in Karnataka to lead a respectful life without any harassment or discrimination.”

Jayamala further said, “I cannot bring changes in 24 hours but I assure you that I will put my 100% effort to fulfill the needs of the people through this ministry. This year we have sanctioned additional Rs 10 lakh to each of the academies for promoting them. We also want to encourage those who are working to retain the tradition and culture.”

When asked about appointing registrars for the Academies, Jayamala said, “We will appoint the registrars soon. We will call a meeting of all the Academy heads and discuss their requirements after which the necessary measures will be taken.”

When asked about the entry for women to Shabarimala, Jayamala replied, “God is one. There is no separate God for men and women. We all believe in the same God, then why the discrimination? I want all the women to be treated equally with respect. There should not be any discrimination to visit the temples or Shabarimala.”

Speaking about the children’s toy train in the Kadri park which has stopped operating after the inauguration by former CM, Jayamala said, “I am not aware of it. I will surely discuss the matter with the concerned authorities and find out the reason for the delay in operating the children’s toy train in the park.”

Former ministers Ramanath Rai and Abhaychandra Jain, MLA Shankunthala Shetty, MLC Harish Kumar, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Suresh Ballal, Mamatha Gatti, P V Mohan, Rakshith, Rajshekhara Kotian, Sharlet Pinto, A C Bhandary and others were also present.
