By-polls: Cong, BJP candidates file nominations in Nanjangud, Gundlupet

Mysuru: A show of strength marked the filing of nomination papers by the Congress and BJP candidates for the April 9 by-elections to Nanjangud and Gundlupet Assembly constituencies on Monday.

In Nanjangud, large crowds of supporters accompanied Congress candidate Kalale Keshavamurthy and BJP candidate Srinivas Prasad when they filed their respective nomination papers at the taluk office.

Minister in charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa and Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao accompanied Keshavamurthy while he submitted the nomination papers.

Former Minister V. Somanna accompanied Prasad when he filed his nomination papers. Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner (MCC) G. Jagadeesh, who is the Election Officer, accepted the papers. BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa participated in the road show organised by the party in Nanjangud.

Similarly, crowds of Congress and BJP supporters thronged the taluk office in Gundlupet when Niranjan, the BJP candidate, and Geetha Mahadev Prasad, the Congress candidate, filed their respective nomination papers.

Tension prevailed outside the taluk office in Gundlupet when supporters of the rival political parties came face to face when their candidates were filing nomination papers. After stones were pelted, the police had to resort to caning to disperse the crowd.

Election Officer Nalin Atul accepted the nominations in Gundlupet.
