Polytechnic Students Demand Extension of ‘Carryover’ System and Free Bus Pass
Udupi: Students of various polytechnics under the aegis of All college students union Udupi district on Wednesday, July 25, boycotted classes and held a protest demanding the introduction of carryover (COB) system and free bus pass facility to all students.
Addressing the gathering Dinakar Shetty State president for All college Students Union said, under the present system, students could go to the next class only if they cleared a certain minimum number of subjects. This has created problems for the students. Hence, the Government should provide an extension of the “carryover” system in polytechnics. The Government should respond immediately to the students’ demand, he said.
He also condemned the discriminatory decision of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to offer free bus passes only to students of government schools and colleges. The previous Siddaramaiah government had promised to offer free bus passes to all students in its budget and Kumaraswamy had assured that he will continue the welfare programmes announced by the Congress government. Kumaraswamy has betrayed the poor students who are studying in private schools and colleges. The CM should consider all students equally and provide free bus passes to private school students as well, he demanded.
The students of TMA Pai Polytechnic Manipal, Indira Shivarao polytechnic Kadiyali and Government polytechnic college Manipal took part in the protest. After the protest the students submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through the deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis.
Union leaders Raghuveer, Rohan Kumar, Sooraj Indrali, Ranjan, Sachin, Abhiraj, Manoj and others were present.
