Powerbank Mistook for Bomb at MIA, Passenger Held for Questioning
Mangaluru: A passenger was taken into custody at the Mangaluru International Airport after allegedly some explosive item was detected in his baggage during check-in on September 19.
Mohammed Mansoor, from Adyar Kannur was taken into custody at the International airport.
According to sources, on September 19 Mohammed Mansoor was about to board the Indigo flight to Dubai via Bengaluru. During the security check, while scanning Mohammed Mansoor’s baggage, officials got suspicious and took him into custody. Mohammed Mansoor was travelling to Dubai on a visit visa. The flight was delayed for some time.
According to police, One week ago, Mohammed Mansoor had purchased a non-genuine Samsung Power Bank from a vendor at Kuloor. He used it for a week and while travelling to Dubai had carried it with him. During the screening, the security officials got suspicious and informed the police. On the complaint, the Bomb Detective Squad checked the Power bank and confirmed that there was no danger from it.
Mohammed will continue his journey soon.
I appreciate with regard to tight security at Mangalore airport and they are doing a good job. I do believe those who are checking at the airport need more education and they should upgrade their skill. Once I was detained for 15 minutes because I was carrying a dictaphone. I had difficulty in convincing him and he discussed with three different staff, surprisingly none of them knew about dictaphone.
