Pramod Madhwaraj felicitates Gram Panchayats for achieving ‘Open Defecation Free’ Status
Udupi: The district has promoted banking, education, health care and cleanliness, in the days to come Udupi should set an example by becoming the cleanest city in the country said Minister Pramod Madhwaraj. He was speaking after felicitating officials and the gram panchayats for achieving “Open Defecation Free” status in the district on October 28 at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium Manipal.
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have carved their own niche in this regard due to their efforts. Both the districts are far ahead in the education index and can be compared with any other district in the USA and European countries. Both the districts have the growth rate ahead of all other districts in the country,” he said and appreciated the efforts of all those responsible for their hard work.
Briefing on the survey done to evaluate education, health, drinking water and sanitation status of the gram panchayats in the state, the minister said that the top three places go to Bengaluru Urban, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. All these districts are above the average criteria. Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts are highly developed in this aspect, he added. The district should also bag the first place in solid waste management, four villages should have a combined dumping yard and officials will be directed to reserve land for waste management.
District ZP president Dinakar Babu inaugurated the cleanliness helpline. Releasing a book on the action plan initiated on cleanliness, MP Shobha Karandlaje felicitated the officials and the gram panchayat staff.
MLC Kota Shrinivas Poojary, Udupi TP President Nalini Pradeep Rao, Kundapur ZP Jayashree N Mogaveera, Karkal TP President Malini J Shetty, ZP Vice President Sheela Shetty and others were present.
