Udupi: The state fisheries, sports and Youth affairs minister and also district minister In-charge Pramod Madhwaraj on Monday, March 13, launched the e-Hospital services and Jana Sanjivini’ outlet — generic drug stores of the State government here at the District Government Hospital in Ajjarkad.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme Pramod Madhwaraj said that ‘Jana Sanjeevini’ generic medicine and 24×7 pharmacy centres, would provide medicines at a 10 percent discount rate. This project was started by former health minister U T Khader. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with HLL under the public-private partnership (PPP) for the implementation of the project. In ‘Jana Sanjeevini’ centres. The general public can avail medicines at an affordable price. Unlike the current situation, people need not search for private medicals for medicines prescribed by government doctors, as the medicines will be available within the hospital premises, he said.

Speaking about the e-Hospital service, the minister said that patients who have once updated their Adhar, Phone and BPL card Numbers can get health related service from any government hospitals in the Udupi district. The idea behind this is to render health services and treatment to the patients on time and supervise the same online whenever required. With this, information about the patient’s health, treatment needs could be updated and ascertained with precision. This was the first-of-its-kind of service in Karnataka which is first implemented in Udupi district, he added.

The state government has upgraded the Government Taluk Hospital Ajjarkad to District hospital. Although Udupi district came into existence 18 years ago, the government hospital here has not been upgraded from the taluk hospital to the district hospital. I took up the matter with the Chief Minister and he gave the order to upgrade the hospital from the taluk to district hospital. Now we have increased the strength of the doctors and nurses and also need to meet other requirements as early as possible, he added.
