Pramod Madhwaraj Inaugurates ICU and modernised wards of Mission Hospital

Udupi: The new ICU and the renovated and modernised wards of Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital were inaugurated on Saturday, December 3.

Pramod Madhwaraj minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Service and district minister in-charge along with Rev Mohan Manoraj Bishop CSI Karnataka Southern Diocese inaugurated the new ICU and the renovated and modernised wards.

Speaking on the occasion Pramod Madhwaraj recalling the attachment with his family and Mission hospital said, “We are seven children, my mother and also the former minister and MP Manorama Madhwaraj had delivered her six children in the mission hospital. I am proud to say that, I was also born in the mission hospital”.

He further said, “The Christian missionaries have been providing the best healthcare services in Udupi and also Dakshina Kannada district with love and care. The hospital should provide health care with the motto of love and service. Today love and service both are sold out for money. Many hospitals are after making money, but the mission hospital is still running with the motto of love and service which is commendable. The management is planning to start a Medical College in Udupi the hospital currently has nearly 20 acres of land and that would meet the requirement of 20 acres land which is necessary for a medical college. As a district minister in-charge of this district, I am ready to help in getting permission at the government level, he added.

Rev Mohan Manoraj, Bishop, CSI Karnataka Southern Diocese presided over the function. Dr L C Soans Karnataka Rajyotsava Award winner Moodabidri was felicitated on the occasion.

Dr Sushil Jathanna, Director of Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital giving a bird view of the hospital said that Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital is the oldest hospital in Udupi established in the year 1923. It is well known for its maternity and child care services. The hospital has ample parking facilities and is situated in an ideal environment with all specialists available for consultation.

Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital which is a charitable hospital has now undergone the process of significant renovation and modernisation to improve the facilities and services for patients in Udupi and the surrounding areas. The new modern ICU is fully equipped with the latest equipment and technology. In addition, the new ward has been renovated and modernised providing additional capacity and beds for the hospital. A new paediatric ward has also been provided and the pharmacy will now be open for 24 hours. A larger casualty and Trauma Centre with additional observation beds has been established for the convenience of patients attending emergency care. A new Dental Unit has already been started.

The hospital has well qualified MBBS duty doctors who provide round the clock services. Since the hospital is located on 20 acres of prime land, its management has long-term goals. One of which is the construction of a super-specialty hospital and another for setting up of a medical college. The Management is studying the pros and cons of starting the medical college in Udupi. We hope we will be able to achieve it by the coming year, he added.
