Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurates Shelter for the Homeless
Udupi: Minister for Sports, Youth Empowerment, Fisheries and Minister in-charge District Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated the shelter for the homeless constructed under Deendayal Upadhyaya Antyodaya Scheme at Beedinagudde, Udupi here on June 11.
Speaking on the occasion Pramod Madhwaraj said that the shelter has been constructed under the National Urban Livelihood Mission. The shelter includes facilities like solar water heater, toilet, and dormitories for men and women. A connection of biogas unit proposed by CMC Beeedinagudde will be extended to the project.
The central government has released funds for the construction of the shelter while additional basic amenities like cots, utensils etc have to be provided. If the central government fails to initiate funds for the basic amenities, the CMC Udupi will take the initiative for further extension of the project.
The project will be given to NGO’s who are interested in serving the people.
CMC President Meenakshi Madhav Bannaje, CMC Member Sashiraj Kunder, Yuvraj P, Janardhan Bhandarkar, CMC Commissioner D Manjunathayya, Executive Engineer Ganesh, Contractor P Babu and others were present.
Under the project migrant labourers and the homeless can live in the shelter in Beedinagudde.
The Minister also said that the level in Baje dam has gone up to 7 meters following good rains. While questioned about former MLA Raghupathi Bhat’s allegations on the de-notifying of national highway he said that Raghupathi Bhat had protested during the construction of the highway but now he is against the de-notification. He should pressurize the central government to take a stand on it.
