Pramod Madhwaraj Inaugurates Tulu Minadana Odipu
Udupi: ‘Our responsibility is to preserve the heritage of Tulu language for next generation’, said Pramod Madhwaraj District minister in-charge and state fisheries, sport and youth service minister.
He was speaking after inaugurating the “Tulu Minadana Odipu -2016” cultural competitions organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Tulu Koota Udupi, Tulu association of MGM College and women’s government college Jointly at the Ravindra Mantapa Udupi here on October 15.
Tulu is one of the ancient languages that possesses supreme cultural tradition. The aroma of Tulu language has spread across borders and scholars from various parts of the globe come down to India to study the history of the languages. Today’s Young generation spends most of their time with mobiles and the internet. If the same situation continues we will fail to preserve the rich heritage of Tulu.
Janaki Brahmavar president of the Tulu Academy said that this year the academy has planned to organise Tulu Minadana programmes in eight places. As many as 19 schools in Dakshina Kannada and one school in the Udupi district teach Tulu as a third optional language. There is a need to promote Tulu language and culture for today’s young generation, she added.
Meenakshi Madhava Bannaje president CMC Udupi, Dr Y N Shetty Tulu folk scholar, Jagadeesh Kumar principal women’s college, Vishwanath Bairy, Mohammed Mowla, Dr Putthi Vasanth Kumar, Gangadhar Kidiyoor, B Jayakar Shetty Indrali and others were present.
