Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurates Udupi-Karkala KSRTC bus service
Udupi: The Low floor KSRTC city bus service between Udupi-Karkala was flagged off on Thursday, March 9 at the KSRTC bus-stand Udupi here.
Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge flagged off the new Low floor KSRTC city bus service between Udupi-Karkala.
Speaking on the occasion Pramod Madhwaraj said that there was a long-pending demand to start KSRTC buses in the Udupi-Karkala route. The government will support private and KSRTC buses, we are not against private buses. KSRTC and the private buses should work together in giving good service to the passengers. In the Udupi City limits, there are already 12 JnNurm buses running and the public is supporting it very well. The KSRTC has already applied for permits for 26 buses and the RTA is yet to give permits for those buses. On March 21 there is an RTA meeting in the DC office, all 26 applications will be cleared during the meeting. This will help0 the people of the city and the rural areas, he added.
While asked about the cleanliness of the present KSRTC bus-stand, Pramod said that the new JnNurm bus-stand will come up at a cost of Rs 4 crore. The tender process is in progress. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stand will be constructed under the public-private-partnership model in Udupi at a cost of Rs 30 crore. The KSRTC bus stand is now functioning in the commercial complex premises belonging to the Udupi City Municipal Council. The new bus stand would have all the modern facilities, he said.
Meenakshi Madhava Bannaje, president CMC, Nalini Pradeep Rao president Taluk Panchayat, Sandhya Thilakraj vice president CMC, Councillors Ramesh Kanchan, Celina Karkada, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Mangaluru Divisional Controller Vivekanand Hegde and others were present.
